Introduction: Mª Nieves Martínez de Olcoz is a Professor and Researcher in the Department of Spanish and Literary Theory of the Faculty of Philology at Universidad Complutense de Madrid. She holds PhDs from Universidad Complutense (1996) and Yale University (1999), as well as a Master of Arts from Kansas University and Yale University. She has also been a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University (1995-96).

Prof. Martínez de Olcoz has been a member of research projects from CSIC, UCM, Birmingham University and the Institute for Advanced Theatre Training at Harvard University. Her work has been published in journals including LATR, Gestos, Letras femeninas (USA); Anales de Literatura Hispanoamericana, Arrabal, Acotaciones, Castilla, (Spain). She has also edited chapters in Anejos de RILCE, Verbum, Universidad de Salamanca, Universidad de Sevilla, Iberoamericana/ Vervuet. She is the author of the pioneering Teatro de mujer y culturas del movimiento en América Latina (2000), examining feminist criticism in Hispano-American theatre. Martínez de Olcoz has also edited critical editions of playwright Marco Antonio de la Parra´s Heroína Teatro repleto de mujeres (1999) (ed. Cuarto Propio), and La tragedia del Lenguaje (Libros de la Resistencia, 2022).

Her international career focuses on research and dramatic studies with a comparative perspective from European to Hispano-American theatre, from classical to contemporary, multidisciplinary, and intermedial creativity of dramatic text, gender studies and functional diversity.
